Carolina's new quarterback

I only have one thing to say about the Carolina Panthers signing Vinny Testaverde (43 years old) to be their backup quarterback.

At least it's not Aaron Brooks.

Vinny makes a comeback and Dave Kingman is on the shelf...makes no sense.

Kingman might have been a better option than Vinny, quite frankly.

If Dave Kingman hadn't thown his back out lifting his suitcase in 1978, he would probably still be playing somewhere.

I'm sure you will all say "sure, post this now after Vinny's 1st game back". Really, I would have said the same thing a week ago. I don't see why Vinny is a poor choice. The Panthers offense has never been based around a star QB. We just need someone that will not make mistakes or turn the ball over. Let Steve Smith, our defense and ,or, special teams do the rest.

I never really thought it was a bad choice, just an interesting one. He had spent five weeks on the couch not throwing a football and was suddenly signed as a backup.

I think the move clearly worked out, I just thought there were a couple of other guys out there who had played more recently that would have been just as good.

For the record the suitcase was very heavy, it would have killed anyone else.
